DIY Copper Lanterns and Outdoor Evening Decor

May 2017

Have you been shopping yet for outdoor decor this season? I have and everything looks so inviting and beautiful.  The issue that I am running into is the cost, specially for lanterns.  I had decided that new lanterns were out of the question and then I saw these glass canisters with copper lids.  It was love at first sight. I was able to put together three lanterns for under twenty dollars…total. This leaves more money for other beautiful outdoor furniture and decor.

I found the glass canisters at a local home decor store.  I bought all three for ten dollars. I found a pack of four copper string LED lights online for under ten dollars.

I taped the battery pack underneath the lid of each canister for an easy time turning them on and off.

I am not a pro at outdoor decor, but I am loving the idea of making our yard a place that is not only functional, but beautiful. Seating areas are important for the spring and summer months, especially with all of the family gatherings and parties that occur. For years we’ve been using folding chairs as extra seating and it’s my goal to transition to beautiful spaces for our friends and family to enjoy the day.  We have a good size yard, so I have a long way to go, but this relaxing lounge space is set for the spring and summer.

When thinking about how to create an outdoor space, try to think about these four factors.

Ask yourself “Is it ____________?”

  • Functional – Think about how many people are in your immediate family. Think about the amount of people you will be entertaining
  • Beautiful – Make sure YOU like what you see.  I purchased cheap furniture last year and it was terrible quality and I didn’t enjoy looking at it. I’ve learned my lesson and I will not make the same mistake this season
  • Comfortable – Add cushions and pillows, or even a throw
  • Affordable – Stick to your budget (whatever it may be)

Here’s a picture a little later at night so you could really see the copper lanterns shine.

Have a wonderful day!
