Top 3 Kitchen Trends for 2022

Mar 2022

Last week, we shared the top three trends you can expect to see changing bathrooms nationwide. But your home renovation resolutions shouldn’t stop there. Today, we’ll share three kitchen trends we can’t wait to try this year.

Trend 1: Make a Statement

In 2022, you can forget about being soft and subdued. It’s time to be loud and proud in all areas of your life, including the kitchen. Like we started to see in 2021, small backsplash tiles will continue to be replaced with large single slabs of marble that extend from countertop to ceiling. This elegant upgrade creates a true work of art on the kitchen wall that would otherwise be focused on function alone.

A statement wall can be the perfect backdrop, but we don’t foresee this trend stopping there. Look out for ornamental range hoods that are both larger in size and more striking in color as well as oversized pendant lights that will draw everyone’s attention upward.

When it comes to fixtures, mixed metals, including the increasingly popular gold, will adorn the modern kitchen. And expect to see exciting pops of color in cabinetry and accessories.

Together, these style options combine to make a bold statement that shows off each homeowner’s personality beautifully.

Trend 2: Secret Storage

Some of the biggest changes you’ll make this year will begin on the inside, including your kitchen storage. Organization will be especially important this year as the lifestyle do-it-all-from-home lifestyle continues into 2022. Now that we’re home more, the average kitchen has more gadgets than ever before and grocery delivery services help us stay stocked up on all the essentials…sometimes in excess.

Rather than adding a clunky cabinet or cluttering the countertop with storage baskets, install inconspicuous storage. If it’s in your budget (and square footage), build in a hidden pantry to discreetly stow away your necessities. We are already starting to see hidden doorways that lead to walk-in pantries – and even secret wine rooms.

Now, not every home is well-equipped for a brand-new secret storage space. Another great secret solution to consider is invisible hinge doors that create a cleaner, frameless look. If a new install of any type is out of the question, work with your existing cabinets and install built-in drawers for easier access and better organization.

Trend 3: Natural Upgrades

Like we shared in our Top 3 Bathroom Trends for 2022 post, we expect to see more organic elements incorporated into interior design as we all find peace in natural settings.

When it comes to the kitchen, there’s a lot of opportunity to create a feeling of wide-open spaces. More and more kitchens will be drenched in natural light, whether with fully window-filled walls or uplifting skylights, that creates an effortlessly airy feel. In addition, natural materials will have a real moment in the kitchen. Light-grain woods, natural stones and sleek metals will be taking over cabinets and countertops this year.
