Life with Copper: Stay-at-Home Mom

Apr 2017

Hillary had just purchased a new house with an outdated kitchen. She wasn’t sure what kind of sink to buy, so she hit the web for inspiration. Luckily (for both of us), she found Sinkology. We were able to catch up with Hillary after her installation was completed to ask a few questions, and even snap a few photos of her newly renovated, beautiful, modern kitchen – complete with her Sinkology Rockwell copper farmhouse sink.

S: Why did you decide to do a kitchen renovation?

H: We just purchased a new home and the kitchen was really outdated. The layout of the kitchen was fantastic, but the look and feel was not our style. I wanted more of a rustic and warm space, that also looked clean and modern. We knew that we definitely wanted a farmhouse sink, but we weren’t sure what kind we wanted.

S: Where did you start your search for design ideas / inspiration?

H: Pinterest! Always Pinterest. I searched for kitchen boards around terms like “warm” and “clean.” That’s where I first decided that I wanted to have a copper farmhouse sink. I loved the copper look of the apron front, but I wasn’t sure how to perfectly tie it in to the space. I found the Sinkology website and checked out some of the blog posts about designing around copper, and looked at some of your Pinterest boards, which had a lot of ideas!

I also saw a lot of customer photos on your Facebook page, which really helped to visualize how the sink would look in a real kitchen.

S: Why copper?

H: I love the rustic appearance and it’s something you don’t see in every home. We constantly get compliments on the look of the sink. It’s the first thing you see when you walk into the kitchen. It’s definitely the centerpiece.

S: What do you like most about your copper sink?

H: That it has become the focus of the kitchen. It’s large enough to handle all of the dishes for our growing family with two little boys, while also looking amazing. I also love how easy it is to care for, especially with not much spare time to clean! I got kit from Home Depot, which includes the bottom grid that helps me keep dishes from resting on the bottom. That makes the care the easiest.

S: Why did you choose Sinkology copper sinks over other brands?

H: They’re amazing quality! But also the price – I couldn’t find the same quality for even close to the same low price range. The lifetime warranty also makes me feel confident in my purchase. The kit also made shopping for a faucet super easy. I had seen the Pfister brand in stores, so it was nice to know that the faucet not only matched the copper sink, but was also a very good quality faucet. I love the single pull-down feature. It really helps out when I’m holding one of the boys and need to rinse off a hand or a dish!

S: How did your design your space around your copper sink?

H: We placed the sink in a space that made sense for design and function. We also chose a dark concrete countertop, white subway tile and white cabinets that would compliment the color of the sink, and really make the copper color stand out. We have stainless steel appliances, but I think they work well together in the space.

S: How do you care for your sink?

H: Copper Armor once a month to protect it and keep it from spotting. Daily, a scrub of soap and water. It is very easy. The bottom grid helps ensure that spotting is kept to a minimum.

S: Would you recommend copper sinks to someone else remodeling their space?

H: Absolutely! Not only do I love the sink and the accessories, but the staff at Sinkology was extremely helpful. I used the online chat on the website to ask a few questions before deciding to buy and they were friendly and able to answer all of my questions.

S: What was your most helpful resource in finding ideas?

H: The Sinkology blog has been very helpful! I love looking through their blog for inspiration and tips and seeing what other customers have done with their sinks, as well. And, as I said before, Pinterest!

S: What was your biggest hurdle in designing your kitchen, and how did you get over it?

H: Our biggest hurdle was space, our kitchen is rather small. We used professionals to redesign the placement of appliances to have the most amount of counter and cabinet space. We also started design with our Rockwell farmhouse sink, so we made sure everything else fit around that!
