Updating Your Office Decor from Fall to Winter with Copper

Dec 2016

Sinkology is proud to present Kendra Williams, a home decor expert, DIYer, furniture refinisher, and busy mom as a guest blogger. Kendra runs the blog at Momtique and she is here to share some design ideas and inspiration around designing your home with copper and around your copper sink.

I’m so excited to transition my office space from fall to winter. When you step into my home, you walk right into our office area. With the 5 of us living in a tight 1,000 sq. ft., 3-bedroom home, space is always an issue. We don’t have an actual office but this little space does just fine.

Here was what I started with, I call it fall pastels.

I’ve come to the point that I no longer “try” to add copper when I’m freshening up a space, it just comes natural. I love mixing metals and implementing as many textures as I can. Copper is a wonderful element to add to any decor and it’s very easy to do. You can buy brand new copper items at pretty much any home decor store. Or you can check out your local antique stores or even thrift stores around you for some fun vintage copper goodies. I’m partial to the good old stuff. I love knowing I’m not the first owner of these amazing pieces. Although, I do have my eye on a BEAUTIFUL copper pitcher at a home decor store that I just may have to buy soon. Shhhhhh don’t tell all of the antiques!

One of my favorite things to do is to clean up old copper and give it new life. As soon as I bring an old piece of copper home, I just can’t wait to clean it up and watch it transform into that beautiful rose gold color. The vases, on both the right and the left, were a very dark copper when I bought them. With a little elbow grease they transformed into beautiful, bright shiny treasures. The copper ornaments on the wreath were small clear plastic ornaments that I spray painted. I went searching the stores for copper ornament bulbs and couldn’t find any that I liked so I had to make my own.

Do you decorate your office for Christmas or other winter holidays? I imagine that many offices around the world get skipped over when it comes to seasonal decorating, but not in my house. As I said, our office is in our main living room so seasonal decorating is a must to help with the feel of the room.

Remember you did it yourself and it will probably show, embrace the DIY life.
