The Rivera: Designing with the Sink in Mind

Feb 2016

Remodeling any space can be a daunting task. Picking all the colors, appliances, matching hardware, countertops, the list goes on. Starting with a piece you love, one major focal point, and working your way out can be beneficial to the overall design of your space. So let’s start with one of our newest copper sinks to the Sinkology family, the Rivera (1). This is a double bowl undermount that will make any kitchen space look unique, modern, but cozy and warm.

So, let’’s start with the sink. The dark accents in this double bowl undermount lends itself to a space with warmer, deeper accents, but could also complement a space with lots of color in the palette. That’s one of the beautiful things about the Sinkology copper sinks. They’’re versatile and you really can’’t go wrong with designing a room with these sinks in mind. We chose this Pfister faucet set (2) with the hand pump and basket strainer (3) to perfectly accentuate the darker colors in the space and match this dreamy copper sink.

For this space, we went the rustic decor route. Dark wood cabinets with the classic and clean look of the heavy brass hardware from Wayfair helps make your rustic space feel a bit more modern. We chose a brighter granite countertop with accents of browns and coppers in the surface to draw in all the colors of the space. This will help brighten up the look of the dark cabinets, especially if you don’t have a lot of light in your kitchen. But the combination of the dark wood, the bright countertop will make the copper sink shine even more.

To round off the decor in your space, there are copper pieces galore on the market these days. You can find great pieces at almost every big chain store around. We chose an assortment of copper bowls from Target and place settings to help draw that copper feel out of the kitchen and into your dining space, as well. Drawing the copper tones into the adjoining spaces around your kitchen makes for an even more cohesive design throughout your home.

Don’t forget to round off your space with the perfect fabrics. Find a curtain that plays into the colors in the space and livens up the space with a soft touch of color. To make sure you’’re not making the space too busy, but still keeping with the theme, pick a simple cotton linen washcloth, like these from Ikea. This will keep your rustic farmhouse feel without competing too much with your other colors and fabrics.

This overall design creates a warm, welcoming space that is accessible for every home. Don’’t be afraid to play with adding copper to all of your spaces to help bring out that shine in your Sinkology copper sinks.
